Basic Skills for Biology introduces students to fundamental biological methods and concepts through a comparative study of cells, tissues, and whole organisms. By examining a wide range of species, from single-celled Paramecium to complex multicellular animals, students explore key form–function relationships, evolutionary diversity, and general principles of biology. The course also provides hands-on training in essential practical skills, including wet-lab techniques, light and stereomicroscopy, dissection, tissue preparation, and the documentation of qualitative and quantitative observations in formats such as spreadsheets, figures, lab reports, and oral presentations.
